Bulldogs visit Capitals, trade Raibl, sign Gorges. plus DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY on THE PEAK

Port Alberni Safeway Bulldogs Hockey on 93.3 The Peak FM returns tonight as the Bulldogs try to snap a 5 game losing streak in the back half of this home and home series with the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Get the broadcast tonight from the Island Savings Centre with the pregame on The Peak underway at 7:15 and the play-by-play shortly after 7:30.

The Capitals of course took game one of this set 4-1 at the Pound on Wednesday. It was anyone's game in the third period until the Capitals scored on a 5 on 3 powerplay to take a 3-1 lead.

Both games this season at the BIG STICK have been good ones. The Capitals took game one 2-1 back in September (former Cap Mitch MacMillan scored the winner against the Dogs that night) while the Dogs took the most recent game in Duncan 4-3 in overtime, their last win against a Coastal Conference and Island Division opponent.

In other Bulldogs news....The Dogs have traded Eliot Raibl to the Quesnel Millionaires. Read the release from the Dogs site HERE

Eliot is a guy I've known for a couple years now, so it's always tough to see someone like that go. I wish him all the best in Quesnel. While I believe that Eliot has all the tools to make it to the next level, if he doesn't, we all know he can have a career in radio! I was inundated with positive feedback at the start of the season when Eliot did colour commentary for several games as he was out with injury. A true great personality and a great guy.

More news....The Bulldogs have signed Liam Gorges - Read all about it HERE

I expect Liam to make his Bulldogs debut tonight in Duncan. He'll wear sweater #6.

What a double header Saturday on The Peak tomorrow! With the Canucks - and the Bulldogs- both having earlier than usual start times, it has worked out great to bring you a great day of hockey!

First off, it's the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins. Catch the pregame show at 10:30 tomorrow morning, with all the play-by-play getting underway shortly after 11:00am.

Then, it's the Bulldogs hosting the Surrey Eagles. Catch that pregame show starting at 2:45 tomorrow afternoon with the puck drop right around 3:00pm.

People have been asking me - in the comments section below, in emails, and in person - as to what the reason is for the 3pm start time tomorrow.

The easiest answer, at least as far as I understand it - economics. With the 3pm start time, the Eagles can get off the Island and return home without all the costs that go with staying a night on the Island. The Eagles have accommodated the Bulldogs in the same fashion, as the January 31st game in Surrey begins at 3:30 so the Dogs can in-turn get off the Mainland and return home to the Island Saturday night.

One final bit of news today, a new addition to the extended Peak family.

A big congratulations to Milissa McMullan a.k.a "Milly" a.k.a the FIRST producer and operator I worked with on Bulldogs Broadcasts when I came to the Valley in 2003 on becoming a mom.

And of course also congrats go out to Jolie McMullan (afternoon drive host on THE PEAK) for becoming a Grandma. I actually didn't think of posting this on the blog initially. Jolie asked me if I was going to, and I kind of said "ummmmm, why?" And then Jolie brought up that Milly was a part of the early years of the Bulldogs on the radio! Good point. Milly you were GREAT back in the day and I know you'll be a great mom.

So congrats to mom and dad and family.

Here's mom and Uma Lynn - via facebook.
