Joey Kenward on THE PEAK morning show tomorrow, Travis Cross update + pictures

Vancouver Canucks Radio Play-by-Play Broadcaster Joey Kenward (pictured above with the Memorial Cup after the Vancouver Giants 2007 triumph) will be one of my guests tomorrow on the 93.3 The Peak FM morning show just after 8:10am. The topic of course is the Alberni Valley Golf Club's 16th Annual Charity Classic. Head Pro Bruce MacDonald will also be in to speak about the event July 1oth and 11th. If you haven't registered, you had better get on it in a HURRY. Call the Golf Club at 250-723-5422.

If you have only one event that you can attend over the course of a year, I'd suggest that the Charity Classic should be the one. It's pretty tough to have more fun than one has as the Charity, starting with the Wine and Cheese Friday night, the Golf Saturday, and the party Saturday night. All for great causes in the Alberni Valley and the Province of BC.

There will be a special tip o' the cap for Rob Schick this year, as it's the 16th year for the event. With 16 being Rob's jersey number, and Rob being the man that started the tournament, you can expect this year to be even bigger and better than ever before. And if you have been at the event before, you'd think NO WAY could it ever get better. Yet somehow it always does.

Here is another report from Travis Cross on the second leg of his training/competitive trip in Europe. He is home now if you need to reach him for further comment.

Travis wrestled well on the whole trip. In Macedonia he defeated the German who was 5th at the Olympics in Travis’ weight. He had a close one in the final and lost a last second decision to the Macedonian. He was very satisfied with his wrestling and the entire trip. Canada did well overall and they seem well poised for some great results at the Worlds in September.

If you need further comment from me don’t hesitate to call or email.

All the best.

Tom

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let you know how week two of my two week tour in Europe went. After competing in Sardinia, Italy we went to Rome for a couple of days training before going to Skopje, Macedonia.

Macedonia was a pleasant surprise. Not knowing what to expect from fairly recent tough times the country has seen with war and change from communism to democracy with the breakup of Yugoslavia, we prepared for the worst.

It is a beautiful country with just over 2 million people. The religion is about 30% muslim, 70% orthodox christian. Skopje is their biggest city. They have a lot of mountains and it reminds me somewhat like BC except the trees are nowhere as big. The food they made us was delicious. We trained at a school for kids of all ages. Everyday they were playing soccer until 10pm at night. The ones not playing soccer were just hanging out and cheering. We did challenge them to a game Canada vs Macedonia. Half their team were about three quarters my height but they could play. It was alot of fun and the kids were excited. After that they were on our side and when the wrestling competition started on the weekend they were there and they made up cheers for team Canada.
I placed 2nd. My matches were as follows:

1st match vs Israel 0-1,2-0,3-0

2nd match vs Germany 2-1, 1-2, 4-1

3rd match vs Macedonia 0-1(clinch), 3-1, 1-1

I was stoked to beat the German who placed 5th at Olympics last year in my weight. I had a slow start in the final match but picked it up and took it to the Macedonian in the second round. In the 3rd rd. I didnt capitalize on a couple scoring chances and with 4 seconds left we went out of bounds and they gave him a point for the win.

We had 4 other wrestlers compete and here is their results:

55kg John Pineda Gold
66kg Haislan Garcia Gold
74kg Matt Gentry DNP
120kg Arjan Bhullar Gold

We have a very strong team, It is great to be a part of it.
We are back home now after 5 flights and 41hrs travelling including an overnighter in Amsterdam. It is good to be home.

Next up is our Canada Cup in Guelph, Ontario at the beginning of July, then after that we go to Iowa for a training camp.

I have been asked by some to see some pics of my travels. I actually didnt bring a camera but I will get some pics from teammates and send out a couple.

Thank you,
Travis

I received another email from Travis this morning with a link to some pictures after someone requested them last week. Check out some pictures HERE

That's it for now!
