Dogs add Trainer, Exhibition Schedule, Training Camp Opens September 1st, Hockey School Vid

The Bulldogs have complemented their Bench Staff for the coming season as they have hired Dave Campbell, presumably as their Trainer/Athletic Therapist/Equipment Manager. I expect an official announcement from the team in the near future. This sounds like a great hire for the team as Dave is very experienced, having worked in the CIS as the Trainer and Head Therapist for the St. Thomas University. He has also worked with the Woodstock Slammers of the MJAHL and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the P.E.I. Rocket of the QMJHL in similar roles.

A pretty cool side note to this story - it might be an example of Port Alberni "selling itself" so to speak as even though it's a long way from the East Coast Campbell has been to Port Alberni before as the Athletic Therapist/Equipment Manager for Team Atlantic in the 2009 World U17 Challenge.

Welcome to the club and community Dave!

Speaking of the Dogs - training camp officially opens September 1st but things "unofficially" might get going today as players start arriving en masse in town. There is an informal skate today at 10am at the Multiplex.

Pretty cool video here uploaded by Bulldogs Assistant Coach Adam Hayduk from the AVB Hockey School!

And last but not least, the Bulldogs Exhibition Schedule is on the BCHL website and on the Bulldogs "Game Calendar" on the team website. The Bulldogs will play four Exhibition Games, getting things going with a home and home with the Nanaimo Clippers starting at the Dog Pound Saturday, September 10th with a special 5:30 start time during Fall Fair. Then it's off to Nanaimo the next afternoon for a 3pm start time. Click HERE to check out all the details!

O.K. here's ONE MORE "last but not least" in the form of an update on the Men's Club proceedings at the Alberni Golf Club at Cherry Creek. Thanks as always to Gerry Fagan!

It was a perfect day for golf, not too hot or too cold as 58 men teed it up for the Mac 5 Challenge on Sunday. Topping the field with an incredible score of 53.34 was the twosome of Dave Mann and Darren Van Dyk, followed by Darrell Van Os and Bill Morin shooting 57, coming in third by retrogression with  57.34 was Bill Lekich and Jim Peterson, also with 57.34 was Sandy Duguid and Keith Randall, fifth spot went to Don McGowan and Vic Carlton shooting a 57.66. This format is about the most popular one of the season. Many thanks to Bruce and Kathy MacDonald for their generous contribution to the event.

Closest to the pin winners were on No. 2 Cliff Olaney, the Charity closest to the pin on No 4 was Ron Clark who took home $35 for his effort, The long drive on No 5 was Dennis Debolt, the second shot on No 11 was won by Jim Petersen, on No. 13 it was Wayne Johnstone and on No 17 it was Preban Rasmussen.

Next Sunday is the Dennis Jonsson Scramble, be sure to sign up in the Pro Shop with your handy-caps, There will be computer picked four man teams, with a shotgun start at 8 AM. Try to be at the club no later than 7:45 so you can get to your assigned tees on time.

Monday August 15 another successful Stableford Tournament was held under clear skies and warm temperatures. There was a three-way tie for first place with Jim Rhodes, Gene Kimoto and Bill Bjornson all compiling 39 points. Wayne Johnstone and Bruce Browne each came in with 38 points, followed by Bob Turner, Livio Tedesco and Bill Lekich all with 37 Points, next with 36 points was John Jones, Sandy Duguid and Marty Bowerman.
