Wild top Dogs 2-1 in double OT thriller

A nice start to the evening before the game even started, as the Bulldog parents took to the ice before being introduced by the players to kick off Parents Weekend. After both the Star Spangled Banner and O Canada, the start was fast from both sides of the puck appearing ready to play. While the game was fun to watch and had it's share of end to end rushes, there wasn't much in the way of glaring mistakes made that would have led to wide open scoring chances as both Chris Tai and Chase Perry had a relatively easy 20 minutes of work as the Wild out shot the Dogs 8-5 through a scoreless first period.

The Bulldog would open the scoring early in the second frame after winning an extended battle in the Wild zone as both Garrett Halls and Josh Adkins had a hand in working the puck free to Nathan Dingmann, who walked in alone from in tight and scored a goal very similar to the game winner in overtime against the Capitals as he cut across the crease and tucked it home five hole on Perry to make it 1-0 2:31 into the period. The Bulldogs would have a couple good chances almost immediately afterwards, first on a 2 on 1 rush where Josh Adkins fired wide, and then when Adam Donnelly was sent in alone on a breakaway where Perry appeared to get a blocker or stick on it to turn it away. One more fantastic chance later in the period saw Chris Schutz look to have a sure goal in tight on a rebound and an open net, but Chase Perry made an amazing save throwing his glove out of nowhere to snag it to keep it 1-0. Once again the period was fast-paced, and there weren't many glaring errors leading to any more chances. Shots favoured the Wild in the period 13-8 for a two period total of 21-13.

The third period would see the Wild get on the board in the early minutes of the frame on a quick bang-bang play as the puck was rimmed from the right point behind the Dogs net where Mike Coyne threw a pass to the slot that was one-timed home by Kyle Stephan. Dakota Raabe would also draw an assist at 3:46 of the third period. The third period was again played throughout the remainder rather tight to the vest, with the score staying 1-1 through 60 minutes as the game went to overtime, with the shots in the period favouring the Wild 13-9 for a regulation total of 34-22.

The first overtime saw the Bulldogs carry the play, having a series of great chances on shots and rebounds to win it but Chase Perry held the fort to force double OT with the Dogs out shooting the Wild 5-0.

In double OT, the best early chance went to the Dogs as Jordan Sandhu was sent in alone by Nathan Dingmann, but Chase Perry just got a piece of it to deflect it out of play. The next best chance went to the Wild on a 2 on 0 breakaway, but Chris Tai came up with a huge right toe save on Kyle Stephen to keep it out. The Wild would win it shortly afterwards on a pretty set up by Brendan Harris, who made a defender miss before throwing a perfect cross-ice feed to Logan Milliken on the back door where he one-timed it home before Tai could get over for the game winner at 3:31 of the second overtime period.

Final shots favoured the Wild 39-28, with Chase Perry picking up third star honours with the win while Chris Tai took second star honours with the loss. The Dogs went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Wild went 0 for 5.

Next up, the Dogs host the Chilliwack Chiefs tomorrow night.
