There was fantastic pace to the game early, with no whistles through the first three minutes of the game. That would change drastically almost immediately afterwards though, as a Salmon Arm power play was killed by the Dogs rather effectively but the game slowed considerably with a handful of whistles and a combined two shots between the teams through the first ten plus minutes. Another successful Bulldog penalty kill kept it scoreless, with the Dogs then earning a power play chance of their own with less than two minutes to play in the first. They would generate a couple Grade A scoring opportunities, but just couldn't get the puck to cooperate, missing on a beautiful set up on the rush resulting in an open net with just seconds left in the period. Shots favoured the Dogs 9-4 after 20 minutes with both Carson Schamerhorn and Brandon Kegler being good when called upon in the respective nets.

The Bulldogs came out with a good push throughout the first half of the second period, pushing the pace and getting a good amount of pucks on net. They couldn't crack Brandon Kegler though, as he kept it scoreless through the midway point of the second with the Dogs having a 19-7 edge in shots. The Dogs would again kill off a Salmon Arm power play to keep it tied, but soon after a somewhat odd one saw the Silverbacks open the scoring as a long range slapper down the left wing by Eliijah Barriga appeared to somewhat fool Schamerhorn, tipping off his glove and then tipping off the post far-side before just spinning across the line. Assists on the play went to Mitch Skapski and Damian Chrcek at 14:37 of the second. The Dogs would earn a power play before the period was out, but they looked out of sorts on it and didn't generate any scoring chances or momentum, if anything they lost some. Shots in the period favoured the Dogs 16-11, and 25-15 after two periods.

The third period saw a better energy level from the Bulldogs, as they pushed to try to get on the board. It would instead be an unfortunate series of events that saw Salmon Arm go up 2-0 just over five minutes in when a pair of Bulldogs collided in their zone, resulting in a defender losing a stick. As he went to the bench to retrieve it, an un-marked Silverback in Jared Turcotte was sent in alone by Taro Hirose with a nice set up. Turcotte would put a wrist shot high, glove side past Schamerhorn. There was no second assist given on the play, but their should have been on at 5:34 of the third. Again the Dogs would push, but they couldn't capitalize to break the goose egg. Brandon Kegler would make a great breakaway save on Nathan Dingmann on a beautiful Jordan Sandhu set up with Dingmann drawing a penalty with 11:33 left. The Dogs looked great on it and had a handful of good looks but as was the theme they couldn't bury one. The Silverbacks in the minutes following the advantage had two great chances in tight, with Schamerhorn coming up big to keep the Dogs in it. Unfortunately just minutes later the Silverbacks would erase all doubt when Chase Zieky put a long range wrister on net from the right wing that ticked off the shaft of the stick of Schamerhorn and painfully slowly just over the line to make it 3-0 at 14:57 of the third with Nick Hutchinson and Carson Bolduc drawing the assists. The Dogs pulled their goalie for the extra attacker with two minutes and change to play but couldn't beat Kegler as the 'Backs made the lead stand until the final buzzer.

Third period shots favoured the Bulldogs 14-8 for a game total of 39-23 with Carson Schamerhorn taking the loss while Brandon Kegler picked up first star honours with the win and shut out in net. Both teams went 0 for 4 on the power play.

The Dogs host the Merritt Centennials tomorrow at 2pm for the first meeting of the season between the teams.
